Acute Care and Wellness Care

Acute Care and Wellness Care

Chiropractors typically see two types of patients in their office, acute and wellness. Acute care relates to urgent or responsive care to a pre-existing health problem, pain or injury, whereas wellness, or preventative care, is given when a patient wants to maintain their progress from acute care and/or take the steps needed to prevent issues and reach their optimal health goals.

The short term benefits of chiropractic care can range from better energy and more sleep, to pain relief and better range of motion. Most patients notice a change in their symptoms and function in a relatively short amount of time. However, some patients have had their problems for so long that it takes longer for them to notice a change in their symptoms. The key to remember with any holistic approach to healthcare is that given the right tools, the body can heal itself, but patience and commitment is needed in order to accomplish those goals.

The long term benefits of chiropractic care include: improved immune system function, improved posture, slowed spinal degeneration, and better balance. Chiropractic is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Patients who come in regularly, notice better overall health as compared to those who who do not receive regular care.

By correcting and maintaining the spine through regular chiropractic adjustments, backsliding is less likely to occur. Backsliding can lead to more adjustments and more out-of-pocket expenses. The other cost advantage to having wellness chiropractic care is that your immunity will be stronger and you are less likely to become sick. Less sick time means not having to take time off from work and not having to pay for medications or hospital visits.

Upon initial evaluation in our office, nutrition and exercise are discussed. What you eat, what supplements you take, and how often you exercise are just as important as getting adjusted. It is important to understand all of these aspects work together.

Unfortunately, we have a sick care system in our country, not a healthcare system. The cost of maintaining your health is definitely less than the cost of losing your health and trying to regain it. We encourage everyone to adopt a wellness care model and would be happy to help you start your journey to good health.
